Unity 3D Developer 


ZenFri Inc. is currently looking for an experienced software developer with a passion for creating innovative story-driven experiences on virtual reality and augmented reality platforms. Successful candidates will be able to work from home and will join a Winnipeg-based team while also having opportunities to collaborate with project-specific talents from across North America.

Role and Responsibilities: 

You will be working as part of the technical team to develop and polish original and highly innovative interactive experiences. Working directly with the team lead, you will be called upon to solve technical problems in creative ways while forming part of the backbone for some of our most ambitious projects. 

• Contribute high-quality code in a collaborative and thoughtful way 

Help solve novel or complex technical challenges 

• Develop software using Unity3D and related technologies 

• Work closely with the art, design and narrative teams to integrate 3D assets, designs and audio/visual elements 

• Create and maintain documentation including all aspects of the code 

• Participate in testing and provide feedback for gameplay improvements 

• Attend meetings (in-person in Winnipeg and/or over video call) with the team as required
 

An Ideal Candidate: 

• Bachelors degree or college diploma in computer science and/or related experience.

• Highly proficient with programming, modern practices and frameworks, debugging, and designing solutions in the C# language

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Understanding of Unity3D and can demonstrate the use of the software  

• Competency in the areas of game development

• Ability to work in a team and independently as required in an agile environment 

• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills including demonstrated ability to use lateral thinking, while also knowing when to ask for help from other team members

• Understanding of wireframes, prototypes, and familiarity with HCI research a plus 

• VR or AR experience is a strong asset 

• Interest or experience in Photogrammetry an asset

• Experience integrating branching narrative (such as Twine) outputs in Unity an asset

3D Artist and Animator 

ZenFri Inc. is currently looking for an experienced 3D Artist with a passion for crafting innovative story-driven experiences on virtual reality platforms and upcoming immersive projects. Successful candidates will be able to work from home and join the Winnipeg-based team while also having opportunities to collaborate with project specific talents from across North America. Preference is given to those who have experience creating a video game in a team setting.

Role and Responsibilities: 

You will be working as part of the art team to develop 3D assets for highly innovative interactive experiences. Working directly with the team lead, you will generate characters, animations and graphical assets and take part in animation rigging, rendering, texturing, lighting, and shading tasks, with the goal of creating a fun and beautifully rendered experience.

• Contribute to the design of individual game components including characters, setting and props

• Contribute to and challenge designs to encourage creation of the best quality product

• Model, texture and implement 3D characters and assets

• Rig and Animate 3D characters

• Create and maintain documentation, and proper file versioning

• Work closely with the technical artist and implementation team to ensure assets are easily and properly integrated into projects

• Attend meetings with the team virtually and/or on site, as required

An Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in 3D animation, graphic design, visual effects, or related field, and/or related experience

• Strong foundation in drawing, animation, and 3D design skills

• Technical proficiency in 3D software applications such as: Blender and/or Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or After Effects or Autodesk

• Experience using Unity

• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills

• Have a keen sense of how to blend storytelling with engaging visuals

• Ability to work in a team and independently as required to achieve project deliverables

• Passion for gaming and creating experiences that visually wow and inspire

• Lives or is willing to work in Manitoba

• VR or AR experience is a strong asset

• Knowledge of Houdini, and an understanding of vector math and physics fundamentals is a strong asset

Technical Artist 


ZenFri Inc. is currently looking for an experienced Technical Artist with a passion for crafting innovative story-driven experiences on virtual reality platforms and upcoming immersive projects. Successful candidates will be able to work from home and join the Winnipeg-based team while also having opportunities to collaborate with project-specific talents from across North America. Preference is given to those who have experience creating a video game in a team setting.

Role and Responsibilities: 

You will be working as part of ZenFri’s award-winning creative team to develop VR-friendly custom surfacing, textures, shaders, effects, procedure systems and particle effects. Working directly with the project leads, you will craft unique surfaces and take part in rendering, texturing, lighting, and shading tasks, with the goal of creating a fun and beautifully rendered experience.

• Ensure the art production is meeting the technical constraints of the projects

• Help improve game fidelity and performance through development and use of art asset optimization workflows

• Build and maintain custom surfacing/textures/shaders which reflect the art direction of the project

• Develop unique or reusable particle systems and procedural asset generation pipelines

• Integrate and optimize assets into the project

• Contribute to and challenge designs to encourage creation of the best quality product

• Work closely with developers to achieve appropriate visual style that supports the design vision

• Create and maintain documentation, and proper file versioning

• Attend meetings with the team virtually and/or on site, as required

An Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in 3D design, visual effects, or related field, and/or related experience

• Experience in Blender and/or Maya, UVing, Houdini, Substance Painter & Designer (or equivalent surfacing application)

• Experience in writing shaders or using a visual shader editor

• An understanding of vector math and physics fundamentals

• Experience using Unity required. Experience in Unreal an asset

• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills

• Ability to work in a team and independently as required to achieve project deliverables

• Ability to set tasks within the context of other team objectives

• Lives or is willing to work in Manitoba

• VR or AR experience is a strong asset
