In what has quickly cemented itself as a long-held industry tradition, New Media Manitoba organizes a Holiday Party that attempts to bring together Manitoba’s entire digital media sector to celebrate the year’s achievements and look ahead to the future in a causal, fun setting. It’s the quintessential gathering that displays our community’s cohesion and highlights our mutual appreciation.
This year’s December 7th event will be no different.
This year, New Media Manitoba is bringing together an ever expanding roster of industry collaborators and event sponsors, of which ZenFri is proud to be among such good company.
First the collaborators.
As has been increasingly the case over the last few years, New Media Manitoba is partnering with other closely aligned industry associations and organizations to ensure this gathering truly represents the entirety of that vast and nebulous field of “new media.” This year’s partnering organizations include:
- Graphic Designers of Canada Manitoba – A non-for-profit member-based organization of design professionals, educators, administrators, students and affiliates in communications, marketing, media and design-related fields that acts as Canadaʼs national certification body for graphic and communication design.
- Secret Handshake – A monthly gathering of creative people, used for networking or just hanging out with peers.
- International Game Developers Association Winnipeg – The Winnipeg chapter of the IGDA offers talks, panels and meetups for members in Winnipeg’s growing game development community. It’s an organization we’ve long involved ourselves with and highly recommend you come out and meet some of the association’s organizers.
Now onto the collaborators.
There is a growing desire among Winnipeg’s development studios to work together to support the health and vitality of the local industry. It’s our feeling here at ZenFri that this is now more important than ever, as it sends a message that our industry is beginning to mature, that more serious players are emerging, and that we strive to cement ourselves as an indispensable part of the local economy and business community.
This is best displayed by the number and variety of sponsors this year which includes two of our largest and longest-lasting development studios, Complex Games (mobile game developer) and Tactica Interactive (web, mobile, games, social). It also includes the fast growing and vibrant incumbent Bit Space Development (innovation training and education experiences), as well as video and design content creators Handcraft Creative who’ve been around about as long as we have and are now an important fixture of the community.
Then of course there is us.
One part networking event, two parts gathering of friends and colleagues, the annual Holiday Party is not to be missed. It takes place at Rudy’s Bar and Grill on December 7th and starts at 7pm. Admission is $10.
