With the completion of a prototype for our VR project “The Last Taxi“, a slew of new research projects with the University of Manitoba and the release of Fossil Discovery Adventure (an AR installation which we just learned has helped the CFDC hit record attendance numbers) 2017 turned out to be a pretty big year.

Looking ahead, 2018 is slated to be even bigger with a string of unannounced projects inching closer to completion and Last Taxi slated to begin full scale production as one of the largest and most ambitious games we’ve ever undertaken.

Here’s a quick conceptual rendering of the player’s Taxi sitting in the garage. This piece was generated during the projects prototyping phase, by taking rough in-game 3D assets and applying enhanced textures in Photoshop to give a sense of how the game may look and feel closer to completion.

To honour all that we’ve create so far and where we’re going in the near future, we’ve released a reel showcasing some of our proudest projects.

For those watching closely, or eager to get just a little bit more information on Last Taxi, play close attention to the reel as there are several fleeting clips from the prototype sprinkled throughout that provide a first look at the game in action since we began redeveloping it for virtual reality.

Beyond all of that, larger machinations are afoot for us to continue to thrive as a wholly independent, artist-led and passion-fuelled company. While we can’t reveal this news just yet, we trust that you’ll know it when you see it.

So here’s to 2018, a transformative year for ZenFri. Stay tuned.
