Last year ZenFri teamed up with the University of Manitoba’s Computer-Human Interaction Lab and Professor Jim Young  on a research project titled “Evaluating player empathy and narratives with new-media interactive characters.”

The project was a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) funded project that was designed to help us better understand how empathy changes based on the medium or method of deployment. Focused on a mix of robotics, augmented reality and animation.

Based off of our experience last year, we’ve decided to team up with another leading computer science professor at the University of Manitoba and apply for another NERC Engage Grant.

This years project, “3D scene analysis and semantic labeling for augmented reality in mobile applications” is being run by Professor Neil Bruce and his computer vision students.

We’re pleased to announce that NSREC will once again be supporting a joint University of Manitoba-ZenFri research project.

We look forward to seeing what we can discover.
